2024 MAC Championships: How to Compete for $1,000 and Shine on the Court

The Michigan Athletic Club is gearing up to host the 2024 MAC Championships from September 20-22, and excitement is building for this prize-money tournament. With a $1,000 prize pool at stake, the event promises to attract some of the best talent in the region.

The pickleball tournament will follow a three-day schedule, starting with men’s singles and women’s doubles on Friday, September 20. Saturday will feature women’s singles and men’s doubles, while mixed doubles will cap off the competition on Sunday. Each event will be played in a round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to a single-elimination bracket. Matches will be to 15 points, win by two, guaranteeing a minimum of four matches per player.

Players will also have their performances recorded for official DUPR ratings, adding competition. The official ball for the event will be the Onix Dura Fast 40 Neon, known for its durability and fast pace on outdoor courts.

The prize pool for the open division, set at $1,000, could increase based on registration numbers. Gold, silver, and bronze medalists will split the prize money 50%, 30%, and 20%, respectively, providing further motivation for participants to bring their best game to the court.

The MAC Championships offer an accessible entry fee of $60, with a $10 fee for each event. However, players are not considered fully registered until they have paid in full and secured a partner. Late registrations will not receive a tournament T-shirt. In case of rain, the tournament organizers have set up eight indoor courts with temporary nets, ensuring that gameplay can continue uninterrupted.

The Michigan Athletic Club, located at 2900 Hannah Blvd in East Lansing, will be the center of the action. With 16 pickleball courts on a hardcourt surface, the facility is well-equipped to host the tournament. While no pets or grills are allowed on the premises, players can expect a professionally run event that delivers plenty of competitive pickleball action.

Registration closes on September 7, with a $20 processing fee for early withdrawals. After September 10, refunds will not be issued. All in all, the 2024 MAC Championships promise a weekend of high-stakes pickleball, with some of the best players in the region competing for medals and prize money.
