Adriana Kristina Leon (born October 2, 1992) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for San Diego Wave FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the Canada national team. She previously played college soccer for NCAA Division I programs Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Florida Gators before turning professional with the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, Western New York Flash, Sky Blue FC, Seattle Reign, and Portland Thorns in the NWSL, Swiss club FC Zürich in the Nationalliga A, and West Ham United, Manchester United, and Aston Villa of the English Women’s Super League. Early Life and Background
Adriana Kristina Leon was born on October 2, 1992, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. She was raised in the community of Maple before her family relocated to King City in 2010, when she was 16 years old. Her extended family holds a controlling share of the Canadian furniture retailer Leon’s, which has remained part of her family background.
Before becoming a professional soccer player, Leon began figure skating as a young child. She took up ice hockey at the age of 10 and went on to play seven seasons of minor hockey up to the Midget AA level. After appearing as an unused substitute in the team’s opening match, she made her professional debut on April 27, 2013, as an 84th-minute substitute for Sydney Leroux in a 2–1 win away at Western New York Flash.
