Agustin Ojeda Bio
Axel Agustín Ojeda (born 19 June 2004) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a winger for Major League Soccer club New York City FC. Standing 1.69 m tall, he wears the number 26 shirt and is regarded as one of the promising young wide players to come out of Argentina in recent years.
Ojeda came through the Racing academy in Buenos Aires before making his senior debut in 2022. He has since represented Argentina at under-15, under-17, and under-20 level, and in February 2024 completed a high-profile move to Major League Soccer.
Early Life and Background
Ojeda was born in Rosario, in the Santa Fe Province of Argentina, on 19 June 2004. He was raised in the neighbourhood of Tablada, an area that local press has often described as one of the more challenging parts of the city. Growing up in a football-mad region known for producing top-level talent shaped his early years and pushed him toward organised sport at a young age.
From a young age, Ojeda played street and amateur football around Rosario, often alongside other children who would later become fellow professionals. His speed and comfort on the ball caught the attention of scouts, and it was this local environment that ultimately opened the door to a top-flight academy in Buenos Aires.
Path to Soccer
Ojeda was spotted by Racing scout Jorge García in 2015 during a scouting trip to Rosario. García had originally travelled to watch local side Alianza Sport, but Ojeda, then playing for the opposition, along with teammate Lautaro Ronchi, immediately stood out. The young winger quickly attracted interest from other Argentine clubs, including Newell’s Old Boys and Rosario Central.
Despite the local interest, Ojeda opted to join the Racing academy in 2015, beginning a seven-year spell in the club’s youth system. He progressed steadily through the age groups, refining his game as a wide attacker and learning the tactical demands expected at one of Argentina’s biggest clubs.
Agustin Ojeda Career
Early Career (2015–2022)
Between 2015 and 2022, Ojeda developed inside the Racing youth setup, training daily at the club’s academy and playing in the Argentine youth divisions. He was regarded as one of the more exciting wide players coming through the ranks, with coaches praising his dribbling and directness in the final third.
His progress in the academy earned him a call-up to the Racing first team by manager Fernando Gago ahead of a Copa de la Liga Profesional match against Atlético Tucumán on 14 March 2022. Ojeda made his professional debut in that game, coming off the bench to replace Enzo Copetti late in the second half of a 4–0 away win.
Racing Breakthrough (2022–2024)
Following his debut, Ojeda did not feature again for the Racing first team for an extended period, and in August 2023 manager Gago publicly stated that the young winger had made a mistake. Reports indicated that Ojeda had arrived late to training on multiple occasions, which led to him being sent to work with the reserve side in order to regain the trust of the coaching staff.
He was eventually reinstated by Gago during the following campaign, and he responded with his first professional goal. On 24 July 2023, playing on the left wing against Central Córdoba, Ojeda latched onto a through-ball from Tomás Avilés and slid a finish under goalkeeper Matías Mansilla to make the score 2–0 in what became a 3–1 Racing victory.
Just over a fortnight later, on 10 August 2023, Ojeda was again named in the starting XI, this time for a Copa Libertadores tie against Colombian side Atlético Nacional. With Racing leading 1–0, he doubled the advantage five minutes into the second half, dribbling from the right wing into the penalty area and sliding the ball past goalkeeper Harlen Castillo in a 3–0 win. Those performances helped re-establish him in the senior squad.
New York City FC Era (2024–Present)
On 2 February 2024, Ojeda signed with Major League Soccer side New York City FC on a five-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee, ending his long association with Racing. The move marked a fresh start for the young Argentine, who was seen as a long-term attacking option for the club.
Since arriving in MLS, Ojeda has settled into the wider first-team picture at New York City FC, wearing the number 26 shirt and operating primarily as a winger. His blend of dribbling, direct running, and comfort on either flank has made him a player coaches can deploy in a variety of attacking roles.
Driving Style and Strengths
Ojeda is known for his directness in wide areas, his quick feet, and his willingness to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. He is comfortable playing on either the left or the right wing, can cut inside onto his stronger foot, and is willing to track back and contribute defensively, traits that have helped him earn minutes at both Racing and New York City FC.
Notable Events and Milestones
Key moments in Ojeda’s career so far include his professional debut in a 4–0 win over Atlético Tucumán in March 2022, his first senior goal against Central Córdoba in July 2023, his standout Copa Libertadores performance against Atlético Nacional the following month, and his transfer to New York City FC in February 2024.
Agustin Ojeda Career Wins
Ojeda is still in the early stages of his professional career, but he has already collected meaningful wins at club level. His most notable victories include Racing’s 4–0 away win over Atlético Tucumán on his debut, the 3–1 victory over Central Córdoba in which he scored his first senior goal, and the 3–0 Copa Libertadores win over Atlético Nacional that helped announce his arrival on the continental stage.
Racing Highlights
Ojeda’s standout moments for Racing all came in the 2022 to 2024 period, when he made the step up from the academy to the senior side. The 4–0 win over Atlético Tucumán marked his debut, the Central Córdoba match delivered his first senior goal, and the Atlético Nacional fixture provided his most high-profile performance in a Racing shirt.
Other Wins and Performances
Beyond those Racing highlights, Ojeda has begun building a body of work in Major League Soccer with New York City FC since February 2024, continuing his development as a wide attacker at one of the league’s most demanding clubs.
Agustin Ojeda Family
Family Background and Racing Lineage
Ojeda was raised in the Tablada neighbourhood of Rosario, a city famous for producing world-class footballers, but he himself is not part of a well-known sporting family. His route into professional football came through local play in Rosario and the eye of Racing scout Jorge García in 2015, rather than through any family connection to the sport.
Personal Life
Ojeda keeps his personal life largely out of the public eye. He moved to New York in February 2024 after signing with New York City FC, and he maintains a public presence through his social media accounts, where he shares updates from his professional career.
2025 Season Performance
The 2025 season represents Ojeda’s first full campaign as a settled member of the New York City FC squad, having arrived at the club midway through 2024. After a period of adaptation to Major League Soccer, he is expected to play a more prominent role as a regular contributor on the wing for the club across the league season.
With the number 26 shirt on his back, Ojeda is targeting more consistent minutes and a clearer attacking output in terms of goals and assists. Coaches at New York City FC have highlighted his dribbling and directness as central to the way the team wants to attack, and the season is an opportunity for him to turn that potential into regular production.
Ojeda’s progress will also be tracked by Argentina’s national team setup, where he has already featured at under-15, under-17, and under-20 level. A strong 2025 in MLS could strengthen his case for a senior international call-up, while also reinforcing his status as one of the more intriguing Argentine wingers of his generation.
