Bethany Catherine Balcer, also known after marriage as Bethany Catherine Bos, is an American professional soccer player who plays as a striker. She built her reputation as a prolific scorer at the NAIA level with the Spring Arbor Cougars before becoming the first NAIA player to sign with a club in the National Women’s Soccer League. She is best known for her time with the Seattle Reign, where she developed into one of the league’s most consistent strikers.
After being named the NWSL Rookie of the Year in 2019, she spent more than five seasons with the Reign, won the NWSL Shield in 2022, and became the third all-time leading scorer in club history. She was traded to Racing Louisville in mid-2024 and later signed with USL Super League club Dallas Trinity FC in 2026.

Bethany Catherine Balcer was born on March 7, 1997, in Hudsonville, Michigan, in the United States. She grew up in the same western Michigan community and attended Unity Christian High School, where she played varsity soccer and varsity basketball.
She is the fourth of five children in her family and has been open about her Christian faith, which she has described as an important part of her life. Her younger brother, Nicholas Balcer, is a soccer referee who has worked matches in Major League Soccer, the NCAA, and for PRO, while her sister Shannon later became the head women’s soccer coach at Spring Arbor University, continuing the family’s connection to the sport.
Path to Professional Soccer
Balcer joined the Michigan Fire Juniors during her youth career, where she developed as a forward. She then committed to Spring Arbor University, an NAIA program, where she played varsity soccer from 2015 to 2018 as a four-year starter. With the Spring Arbor Cougars, she reached the NAIA Final Four every season and won two NAIA national championships during her career.
Her individual honors at the college level were exceptional, as she was named the NAIA national player of the year three times and earned first-team All-American recognition in all four of her seasons. Early Career (2017–2018)
Before turning professional, Bethany Balcer sharpened her scoring instincts with Grand Rapids FC in 2017, where she led the team to a United Women’s Soccer championship and scored hat-tricks in five consecutive matches. That same summer, she established herself as one of the most dangerous amateur strikers in the Midwest.
In 2018, she joined Seattle Sounders Women of the Women’s Premier Soccer League, where she added a WPSL championship to her growing list of titles. Her performances during this amateur period convinced Seattle Reign FC to invite her to their 2019 preseason training camp, where she earned a contract on the club’s supplemental roster.
Seattle Reign Breakthrough (2019–2024)
Balcer made her NWSL debut on April 14, 2019, entering as an 86th-minute substitute against the Houston Dash, and she scored her first professional goal one week later, curling a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner against Orlando Pride. That strike was also the first home goal the Reign scored in their first season based in Tacoma, Washington. She finished her rookie season as the Reign’s top scorer and was named the 2019 NWSL Rookie of the Year.
Over the next several seasons, she became a fixture in the Reign attack, leading the club in scoring every year she was on the roster and helping the team finish atop the NWSL standings in 2022 to win the NWSL Shield. She also earned two NWSL Second XI selections during her time in Seattle.

On August 19, 2024, Balcer was traded to Racing Louisville FC in exchange for Jaelin Howell and $50,000 in allocation money. She made her Louisville debut five days later as a starter against the Chicago Red Stars and scored her first goal for the club in a comeback victory over Angel City FC on September 14, 2024.
In March 2025, she announced she was taking a mental health leave away from professional soccer, and she returned to the pitch in August 2025, scoring one more goal before becoming a free agent. On November 26, 2025, Racing Louisville confirmed that she would not be re-signing with the team.
Dallas Trinity FC (2026)
On February 3, 2026, USL Super League club Dallas Trinity FC announced the signing of Balcer midway through the 2025–26 season. She made her Super League debut four days later, entering as a second-half substitute in a 4–0 win over Fort Lauderdale United FC.
She went on to appear in every remaining match for Dallas that season, scoring three goals and helping the Trinity qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive campaign. On June 4, 2026, the club announced she would be departing from Dallas at the end of the season.
