Hillman recorded his first career NHL goal on April 4, 2018, in a match against the St. Louis Blues, contributing to a 4–3 victory for the Blackhawks. However, after the 2018 season, he was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Blackhawks, making him a free agent.
Breakthrough (2021–Present)
