After signing with the team, he was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, where he posted a 4–1 record and 2.70 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 33⅓ innings across 13 appearances. Walter did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
