Early Life and Background

Cloé Lacasse was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. She began playing soccer at the age of five with the Sudbury Canadians and later joined Brampton Brams United in 2010. Lacasse attended École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier, where she contributed to her team’s success, helping them win the provincial OFSAA championship twice in 2010 and 2011. In her youth, she also excelled in taekwondo, achieving black belt status, before deciding to focus solely on soccer at the age of 12.

Path to Soccer

After her early development in youth soccer, Lacasse attended the University of Iowa on a scholarship, where she played for the women’s soccer team. In her freshman season in 2011, she led the team in scoring with 12 goals and was recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice. Over her college career, she earned numerous accolades, including being named to the All-Big Ten First Team and finishing her Iowa career tied for the school record with 112 points.

Early Career (2012-2015)

Cloé Lacasse began her professional career in 2012 with the Toronto Lady Lynx in the USL W-League. After a brief stint, she signed with the Icelandic club ÍBV in 2015, where she quickly made an impact. During her time with ÍBV, she won the League Cup in 2016 and the Icelandic Cup in 2017. Lacasse was also named ÍBV’s Player of the Year in 2018, solidifying her reputation in the league.

Breakthrough (2019-2023)

In July 2019, Lacasse signed with Portuguese club Benfica, where she achieved significant success. She became the first player to score for a Portuguese club in the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in November 2021. Over her four seasons with Benfica, she won multiple league titles and individual awards, including being voted the top player in the league during the 2022-23 season.
