Colton Gordon Bio
Colton Zimring Gordon is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). Gordon played college baseball at Hillsborough Community College and the University of Central Florida (UCF). He was selected by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB draft, and made his MLB debut in 2025. He pitched for Team Israel in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Colton Zimring Gordon was born on December 20, 1998, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He had his bar mitzvah in St. Petersburg, where he was raised by his father, Steve Gordon. Colton is Jewish and attended Hebrew school during his childhood. He grew up playing T-ball and Little League at Fossil Park in St. Petersburg and later moved to Bradenton, Florida, where he lived with his mother and attended Haile Middle School. As a child, he was a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Path to Baseball
Gordon attended Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, where he played baseball. In his senior year, he achieved a record of 4-2 with a 1.21 earned run average (ERA) and recorded 77 strikeouts over 52 innings. He was ranked as the sixth-best left-handed pitcher in Florida coming out of high school. After high school, he played college baseball at Hillsborough Community College in 2019, where he posted a 7-4 record with a 2.44 ERA. He then transferred to the University of Central Florida, where he had a successful stint before undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2021. Despite the injury, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB draft.

Early Career (2021-2022)
After being drafted by the Houston Astros, Colton Gordon began his professional career in the minor leagues. He returned from Tommy John surgery in 2022, playing for the rookie-level Florida Complex League Astros, Single-A Fayetteville Woodpeckers, and High-A Asheville Tourists. During this time, he compiled a combined record of 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA and was named a 2022 MiLB.com Organization All-Star. His performance garnered attention, and he was recognized as an emergent star in the American League West.
Breakthrough (2023-2025)
In March 2023, Gordon was named the Astros’ tenth prospect according to MLB.com. He began the 2023 season with the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks and was later promoted to the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys. In 29 appearances, he achieved a 7-7 record with a 4.14 ERA and 151 strikeouts. His impressive performance earned him a spot as a 2023 MiLB.com Organization All-Star. In 2024, he continued to excel with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, posting an 8-2 record with a 3.94 ERA and leading the league in batting average against and WHIP. On November 19, 2024, the Astros added him to their 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. Gordon made his MLB debut on May 14, 2025, as the starting pitcher against the Kansas City Royals, where he logged 4+1⁄3 innings.
