Erik Christopher Miller (born February 13, 1998) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2024. Early Life and Background
Erik Miller was born in the United States and grew up in Creve Coeur, Missouri. He attended De Smet Jesuit High School, where he began to showcase his talent for baseball. In his junior year, he achieved a record of 5–1 with a 3.58 earned run average (ERA). As a senior in 2016, he compiled a record of 3–4 with a 3.14 ERA. Despite his impressive high school performance, Miller went undrafted in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He had informed scouts that he would not sign if selected, as he was committed to playing college baseball at Stanford University.
Path to Baseball
At Stanford University, Miller continued to hone his skills as a pitcher. In 2017, during his freshman year, he appeared in 17 games, making 13 starts and four relief appearances, finishing with a 5–2 record and a 3.65 ERA. He also participated in the New England Collegiate Baseball League that summer. As a sophomore in 2018, he started 13 games, achieving a 4–4 record with a 4.07 ERA and striking out 52 batters over 48.2 innings. His junior season in 2019 saw him start 15 games, where he pitched to a 3.15 ERA and recorded 97 strikeouts over 80 innings. Early Career (2019–2021)
Erik Miller was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the team for $428,300 and made his professional debut in the same year with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Phillies. Miller quickly moved up the ranks, earning promotions to the Williamsport Crosscutters and the Lakewood BlueClaws. Over 11 games in 2019, he posted a 1–0 record with a 1.50 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 36 innings. However, the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing him from playing any games.
Breakthrough (2022–2024)
In 2021, Miller was invited to spring training as a non-roster player. He faced challenges that year, pitching only 12.2 innings due to injuries. However, he was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League after the season. In 2022, he started the season with the Reading Fightin Phils and was later promoted to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
