Early Life and Background

Evan Deckers was born on February 23, 1999, in Avon, Connecticut. He attended Avon Old Farms School, where he excelled in multiple sports, earning 10 varsity letters in golf, football, basketball, hockey, and squash. In football, Deckers played various positions, including center, long snapper, and quarterback. His performance earned him recognition as a 4.5-star long snapper by Kohl’s Kicking, and he was rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and 247Sports. In February 2018, he signed to play college football for the UMass Minutemen.

Path to American Football

Deckers began his collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts, where he became one of the two main long snappers during his true freshman season in 2018, participating in all 12 games. He continued to showcase his skills in the following seasons, playing in all games in 2019 and 2020, and was named to the Patrick Mannelly Award watchlist prior to the 2021 season. He graduated from UMass in December 2021 with a degree in kinesiology. In 2022, Deckers transferred to Duke University for his final season, where he played in all 13 games, contributing significantly to the team’s kicking game.

After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Evan Deckers signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. He competed for the long snapping position against Zach Triner but was waived on August 29, 2023. Following an injury to Triner, Deckers was signed to the Buccaneers’ practice squad on December 13, 2023, although he was released shortly after without appearing in a game. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers on January 30, 2024.
