Evan King was born in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Van King and Evelyn Maxwell. He attended Walter Payton College Prep, where he began to develop his tennis skills. In 2006, he won five Boys’ 16-and-under singles titles, including the USTA National Open and USTA National Winter Championships. The following year, he became the Illinois State champion in singles. In 2008, King moved to Boca Raton, Florida, to attend the USTA Training Academy, where he also enrolled in online classes at Laurel Springs School. During high school, he was recognized as the No. 1 player in the USTA 18-and-under category and was featured on the covers of USTA Magazine and RISE Magazine.
