Jack Edward Fox was born on September 1, 1996, in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Ladue Horton Watkins High School, where he played both baseball and football. As a senior, he earned first-team All-State honors as a punter and was named to the second-team as a placekicker. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by passing for 1,900 yards and 18 touchdowns as a quarterback.

Path to American Football

Fox played both kicker and punter during his four seasons at Rice University. He began his collegiate career handling kickoffs and made all 12 of his extra point attempts, along with one successful field goal attempt. By his sophomore year, he became the Owls’ punter and was recognized as an honorable mention All-Conference USA (C-USA) after punting 75 times for 3,051 yards, averaging 40.7 yards per punt. Jack Fox was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2019. However, he was waived during final roster cuts and later re-signed to the practice squad on October 30, 2019, after the team’s punter suffered an injury. His time with the Chiefs was brief, as he was released a week later.

Breakthrough (2020-Present)

Fox was signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad on December 5, 2019, where he spent the remainder of the season. He was signed to a futures contract at the end of the season and was named the Lions’ opening day punter at the conclusion of training camp, beating out Arryn Siposs. He made his NFL debut on September 13, 2020, in the season opener against the Chicago Bears, where he punted four times for 197 yards, averaging 49.3 yards per punt.
