He finished the shortened 2020 season with a 1–3 record, a 4.94 ERA, and 48 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched. In 2021, he had a challenging season, going 5–13 with a 5.36 ERA and 129 strikeouts over 124.1 innings across 24 starts. The Pirates named him their starting pitcher for Opening Day of the 2022 season. That year, he made 28 starts, logging a 3–12 record and a 4.69 ERA with 147 strikeouts in 144 innings pitched.
