Katie O’Kane Bio
Katherine Susanna O’Kane (born January 18, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Racing Louisville FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The Seattle native came up through the Reign FC academy, played college soccer for the Washington Huskies and the Utah Utes, and signed her first professional contract with Racing Louisville in February 2025. Standing 5 ft 4 in (1.63 m) tall and wearing jersey number 20, she became the first Utah Ute to join the NWSL following the abolition of the league’s college draft.
Early Life and Background
Katie O’Kane was raised in Seattle, Washington, where she first laced up her boots in the Reign FC academy as a young player. Both of her parents are former Dartmouth athletes; her mother competed in cross-country skiing and her father played football, giving the household a deep grounding in college-level competition. That family background helped shape her discipline and her competitive instincts long before she reached the national stage.
O’Kane attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, where her impact was immediate. As a freshman, she helped the soccer team reach the state semifinals for the first time in more than two decades, earning All-Metro and All-State honors that same year. Across her high school career she was twice named to the All-Region tournament team, and she also represented the Washington Olympic Development Program (ODP), where she led the program in scoring.
Path to Soccer
Even before she finished high school, O’Kane had already locked in a college plan, verbally committing to the University of Washington as a freshman. The Reign FC academy had sharpened her technical base, and her high school performances gave her a national platform. By the time she graduated from Bishop Blanchet, she was a known quantity in Pacific Northwest youth soccer circles.
She joined the Washington Huskies in 2021, appearing in 29 games and starting twice during her one season in Seattle. She scored her first college goal on September 5, 2021, a long-range strike in a 2–1 defeat to New Mexico. Looking for a larger role, she transferred ahead of the 2022 season and joined the Utah Utes, a move that launched the most productive stretch of her amateur career.
Katie O’Kane Career
Early Career (2021–2022)
O’Kane’s first college chapter came with the Washington Huskies in 2021. While her starting opportunities were limited, her ability to finish from distance was on display against New Mexico. That freshman year was a foundational one, giving her a feel for the speed and physicality of Pac-12 soccer before she made the decision to transfer.
Her first season with the Utah Utes in 2022 saw her step into a starting role immediately. She started all 19 matches that year, marking a clear step up in responsibility and establishing herself as a player her coaches could rely on from the opening whistle.
Utah Utes Breakthrough (2022–2024)
Across three seasons in Salt Lake City, O’Kane grew into one of the Utes’ most consistent attacking threats. In 2023, she led the team in both goals and points and was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week in October after registering a hat-trick in a 4–2 victory over Oregon. That breakout year put her on the radar of professional scouts and set the stage for her senior campaign.
During the summer before her senior year, O’Kane played for Oakland Soul SC of the pre-professional USL W League. Oakland finished second in the Nor Cal division and advanced to the playoffs, giving O’Kane her first sustained taste of senior-level competition. Back at Utah, she became part of the first Utes squad to compete in the Big 12 Conference, scoring the lone goal in Utah’s first-ever Big 12 victory over Arizona State on September 12. She once again played in all 19 matches, finishing second on the team in both goals and assists.
Racing Louisville Era (2025–Present)
After graduating from Utah, O’Kane joined Racing Louisville for the 2025 preseason as a non-roster invitee. She signed a one-year contract on February 21, 2025, and was noted to have changed positions from forward to midfielder. She became the first Ute to reach the NWSL after the college draft was abolished. O’Kane made her professional debut on March 15, 2025, coming on as a second-half substitute for Janine Sonis in a season-opening draw with the North Carolina Courage, and earned her first start two games later against the Chicago Stars.
She appeared in every Louisville match through the first half of 2025 and registered her first professional assist. On July 1, 2025, she re-signed with Louisville through the 2027 season, locking in her long-term future with the club. On September 5, 2025, she netted her first professional goal, opening the scoring in a 2–1 loss to the Portland Thorns, and she started all 26 regular-season games as Racing Louisville advanced to the playoffs for the first time in club history.
Driving Style and Strengths
O’Kane combines a midfielder’s reading of the game with a forward’s eye for goal. Her strongest moments come when she can attack central channels, shoot from distance, and link play between the lines, and her work on direct free kicks added another layer to her game in 2026.
Notable Events and Milestones
Her first professional goal came on September 5, 2025, against the Portland Thorns, and her first career brace arrived on May 8, 2026, in a 3–1 victory over Portland Thorns FC. The second goal of that brace, a curling free kick, was voted NWSL Goal of the Week, and she also earned a call-up to the United States under-23 team for a training camp in October 2025.
Katie O’Kane Career Wins
O’Kane’s win totals across the senior professional ranks are still being built. Through her debut NWSL season in 2025, she became a regular contributor for a Racing Louisville side that reached the postseason for the first time in club history, and she added her first professional goal and brace in the months that followed.
Other Wins & Performances
Her pre-professional highlight was a summer with Oakland Soul SC in 2024, when the club finished second in the USL W League’s Nor Cal division and reached the playoffs. At the international youth level, she earned a call-up to a U.S. under-23 training camp in October 2025.
