Logan Mathers Brown Bio

Logan Mathers Brown is an American professional ice hockey center who currently plays for the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League while under contract to the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. He was selected 11th overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. Brown has also spent time with the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning organizations during his professional career.

Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 218 pounds, Brown plays as a center and shoots left, making him one of the larger forwards in the league. His combination of size and skill made him a highly coveted prospect ahead of the 2016 draft.

Early Life and Background

Logan Mathers Brown was born on March 5, 1998 in Raleigh, North Carolina, at a time when his father was playing for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. His father, Jeff Brown, was a former NHL All-Star defenseman whose coaching career would later shape Logan early development in the sport.

Brown grew up playing minor ice hockey in St. Louis and Indiana, where his father was coaching at the time. The experience of traveling and competing alongside his father coaching influence helped Logan develop his game from a young age. He participated in the 2010 and 2011 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with his St. Louis area team, gaining early exposure to elite-level competition.

Growing up in hockey environments across multiple cities gave Brown a broad perspective on the game and helped him adapt to different coaching styles and systems. His father NHL career and coaching background provided access to training and mentorship opportunities that most young players do not have.

Path to Hockey

The Ontario Hockey League selected Brown sixth overall in the first round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection by the Niagara IceDogs. However, the IceDogs quickly traded his rights to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for six draft picks, and Brown began his major junior career with Windsor that same year.

Brown attended the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Evaluation Camp but ultimately chose to play in the Ontario Hockey League for the 2014–15 season. In his rookie campaign with the Windsor Spitfires, he appeared in 56 games and recorded 17 goals and 43 points, though the rebuilding team finished last in the Western Conference and missed the playoffs.

The 2015–16 season marked a significant step forward, as Brown set career highs with 21 goals and 53 assists for 74 points in 59 games, the second-highest total on the team. He recorded his first career hat-trick on February 28, 2016 against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and made his OHL playoff debut that spring. His play caught the attention of NHL scouts, leading to his selection by the Ottawa Senators 11th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Logan Mathers Brown Career

Early Career (2014–2017)

Brown joined the Windsor Spitfires for the 2014–15 season and immediately established himself as a scoring presence. His rookie production of 17 goals and 43 points in 56 games demonstrated offensive potential that made NHL teams take notice.

The 2015–16 campaign saw Brown reach new heights with 74 points in 59 games. He posted two four-point games and recorded his first career hat-trick. His point production remained high in 2016–17 despite injuries that limited him to 35 games, where he scored 14 goals and 40 points. Brown earned two hat-tricks that season, including one on January 19, 2017 against the Ottawa 67’s, a team coached by his father Jeff Brown. He helped lead the Windsor Spitfires to the 2017 Memorial Cup, where he scored his first Memorial Cup goal and added two assists in a 7–1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Spitfires went on to win the Memorial Cup final 4–3 over the Erie Otters, with Brown contributing two assists in the championship game.

Following the Memorial Cup, Brown was traded to the Kitchener Rangers on January 18, 2018 along with Austin McEneny in exchange for Grayson Ladd and four draft picks. In 17 games with Kitchener, he scored nine goals and 24 points, helping the Rangers secure their first division title since 2008. Brown added five goals and 27 points in 19 playoff games as Kitchener reached the Western Conference finals.

Ottawa Senators Era (2017–2021)

Brown signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators on August 19, 2016, and made his NHL debut on October 5, 2017 against the Washington Capitals. He recorded his first NHL point, an assist, on October 21, 2017 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He appeared in four games with Ottawa that October before being returned to Windsor.

For the majority of his time with the Senators organization, Brown split seasons between Ottawa and the American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators. He scored his first NHL goal on November 22, 2019 in a 4–1 win against the New York Rangers, finishing the 2019–20 season with one goal and eight points in 23 NHL games. His 2020–21 season was limited to a single NHL game, marking the end of his tenure with the Senators organization.

St. Louis Blues Era (2021–2023)

The Ottawa Senators traded Brown to the St. Louis Blues on September 25, 2021, along with a conditional fourth-round draft pick, in exchange for forward Zach Sanford. Brown scored his first goal with the Blues in his debut appearance for the team, making an immediate offensive impact following the trade. He signed a one-year contract extension with St. Louis on February 8, 2022.

During the 2022–23 season, Brown split time between the Blues and their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. He appeared in 30 games with St. Louis, registering two goals and eight points. An injury suffered in a 5–1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on November 8, 2022 sidelined him until December 19.

Tampa Bay Lightning Era (2023–2025)

As a free agent from the Blues, Brown signed a one-year two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on July 1, 2023. He began the 2023–24 season on long-term injury reserve due to an undisclosed injury that kept him out indefinitely, causing him to miss the entire season.

Following his missed season, Brown agreed to a professional tryout agreement for the Lightning 2024 training camp. After the tryout concluded, he signed a one-year contract with the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay AHL affiliate, for the 2024–25 season. Brown signed a one-year contract with the Lightning on March 4, 2025, though he was placed on waivers to remain in the AHL.

Los Angeles Kings Organization (2025–Present)

As a free agent from the Lightning organization, Brown signed a one-year two-way contract with the Los Angeles Kings on July 2, 2025. He is currently assigned to the Ontario Reign in the AHL, bringing his NHL experience and offensive skill to the Kings minor league system.
