He attended Jacobs High School in Algonquin, where he excelled in multiple sports, earning 10 varsity letters in track and field, football, and wrestling. In football, he played various positions including running back, linebacker, and safety, earning recognition as first-team all-conference and all-area. Strickland graduated from Jacobs High School in 2018 and committed to play college football for the NCAA Division II Indianapolis Greyhounds.
Path to American Football
Strickland redshirted his freshman year at the University of Indianapolis in 2018, then earned a starting position as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He started the final 10 games of the 2019 season, totaling 46 tackles and four pass breakups, which earned him first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors. After a limited appearance during the COVID-19-shortened 2020–21 season, he served as a team captain in 2021, recording 33 tackles and leading the team with 10 pass breakups. Strickland graduated with a finance degree from UIndy in December 2021 before transferring to Ball State University, where he continued to develop his skills on the field.
