Masyn Blaze Winn (born March 21, 2002) is an American professional baseball shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2023 and has quickly established himself as a promising player in the league. Early Life and Background

Masyn Winn was born in Katy, Texas, and grew up in Kingwood, Texas. He attended Kingwood High School, where he began to showcase his talent in baseball. After his freshman year, he was named to USA Baseball’s under-15 National Team and participated in the COPABE Pan American AA Championships, where he batted an impressive .522 and earned the tournament MVP title. As a junior in 2019, Winn had a remarkable season, achieving a 13–0 record on the mound with a 0.67 ERA and 117 strikeouts over 76+1⁄3 innings pitched, while also hitting .417 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs, earning the title of District 22-6A MVP. However, his senior year was marred by a suspension for the first 12 games due to an infraction of team rules, and the season was ultimately cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Path to Baseball

In 2020, Masyn Winn was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the team for a $2.1 million bonus, initially as a two-way player. Winn quickly made a name for himself in the Cardinals’ minor league system, being recognized as the best overall athlete going into the 2021 season. He began his professional career with the Palm Beach Cardinals in the Low-A Southeast, transitioning to a full-time shortstop. By the end of the season, he had impressive totals, including a .283 batting average, 12 home runs, and 63 RBIs across 119 games.

Breakthrough (2023-Present)

Masyn Winn made his MLB debut on August 18, 2023, after being selected to the 40-man roster. In his first game, he made an immediate impact with a diving play and recorded his first hit. At just 21 years old, he became the youngest player to start at shortstop for the Cardinals since Garry Templeton in 1976.
