Early Life and Background
Michael McGreevy grew up in San Clemente, California, where he attended San Clemente High School. During his senior year in 2018, he showcased his talent on the mound, pitching to a 2.20 earned run average (ERA). Undrafted out of high school, he took the next step in his baseball career by enrolling at the University of California, Santa Barbara. At UC Santa Barbara, McGreevy pitched in 29 games as a reliever during his freshman season, achieving a 5–1 record and earning first team All-Big West Conference honors as well as being named a freshman All-American by Baseball America.

As a sophomore, McGreevy continued to impress with a 2–0 record and a remarkable 0.99 ERA in four starts before the season was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Michael McGreevy in the first round, with the 18th overall selection, in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the Cardinals on July 16, 2021, for a $2.75 million bonus. McGreevy began his professional career with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Cardinals, where he made two appearances before being promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Low-A Southeast. In Palm Beach, he started five games, giving up six runs and ten hits over six innings.
Breakthrough (2024)
McGreevy started the 2022 season with the Peoria Chiefs of the High-A Midwest League, where he went 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA over eight starts. He was then promoted to the Springfield Cardinals of the Double-A Texas League, finishing the season with a 6-4 record and a 4.64 ERA over twenty starts. In 2023, he returned to Springfield before moving up to the Memphis Redbirds of the Triple-A International League, where he posted a 13-6 record and a 4.12 ERA over 27 starts. McGreevy opened the 2024 season with Memphis, compiling a 5–7 record and a 4.45 ERA in 20 starts before being promoted to the major leagues. On July 31, 2024, he made his MLB debut as the starting pitcher against the Texas Rangers, allowing one earned run and striking out three batters in a 10-1 victory for the Cardinals. In his rookie season, McGreevy achieved a 3-0 record and a 1.96 ERA in four games.
