Morotoluwa Ojomo is a Nigerian professional American football defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). A native of Lagos, he moved to the United States in 2009 and played college football for the Texas Longhorns. Early Life and Background

Morotoluwa Ojomo was born on 15 August 2001 in Lagos, Nigeria. He began his primary education at the age of three, and his family relocated to California in 2009. His father is a pastor, while his mother worked in information technology. In seventh grade, the family moved again, this time to Houston, Texas. Ojomo attended Katy High School, where he was two years younger than most of his classmates due to starting school early in Nigeria. Initially, he did not play varsity football during his freshman or sophomore years, as he had not yet developed a workout regimen. However, after his sophomore year, he dedicated himself to weight training and running, which led to his inclusion on the varsity team as a junior. He earned All-District honors as a defensive lineman by the end of that season. During his senior year, Ojomo emerged as a highly regarded recruit, leading a defense that allowed fewer than eight points per game. He recorded eight sacks, 15 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and two recoveries. His performance earned him unanimous first-team All-District selection, the title of defensive most valuable player of the district, and second-team all-state recognition. Ojomo was ranked among the top-300 recruits nationally and received numerous Division I offers, ultimately choosing to play for the University of Texas.

Path to American Football

Ojomo enrolled at the University of Texas at just 16 years old, redshirting his true freshman year while appearing in three late-season games, including the conference championship game. He became a starter in the 2019 season, playing in all 13 games and recording 13 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, and one fumble recovery. In the following year, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he became a full-time starter and made 21 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three quarterback hurries, and one pass breakup. Throughout the 2021 season, Ojomo continued to excel, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors after recording 29 tackles, three of which were for a loss, along with three quarterback hits and one pass breakup. In his fifth year during the 2022 season, he achieved career-highs with 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks. Although he had one year of eligibility remaining, Ojomo decided to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, concluding his five-season tenure at Texas with 50 total games played, 95 tackles, and five sacks.

Early Career (2023)

Ojomo was one of five Texas players invited to the 2023 NFL Combine, showcasing his skills to professional scouts. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the draft, being the 249th overall pick. Ojomo signed his rookie contract on 4 May 2023. He made his NFL debut during Week 17, recording his first career tackle against the Arizona Cardinals. Throughout his rookie season, he appeared in eight games, demonstrating his potential as a valuable player on the Eagles’ roster.

Breakthrough (2024)

In the 2024 season, Ojomo’s role expanded significantly as he appeared in 17 games, making one start. He recorded a sack during the Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Rams, contributing to the team’s playoff success.
