Scott Reedy Bio
Scott Reedy is an American professional ice hockey forward who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL). Reedy was drafted 102nd overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in 2021.
Early Life and Background
Scott Reedy was born on April 4, 1999, in Prior Lake, Minnesota, to parents Dan and Christina Reedy. Growing up in Minnesota, he started skating at the age of 2 and a half, inspired by his elder brother. As a youth, he played peewee hockey in Minnesota District 6 and contributed to the team’s victory in the state championship in Alexandria. During his formative years, he admired players from the Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s ice hockey team, particularly Blake Wheeler and Phil Kessel. Reedy enrolled at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota, at the age of 14, where he continued to develop his skills. In his first year at the school, he played a key role in leading the team to the 2014 Toyota-USA Hockey Tier I Youth National Championships title by scoring seven goals in the tournament. Following this success, he was selected as one of 20 Minnesota players for the USA Hockey National Development Camp in New York, and he committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota.
Path to Hockey
After his time at Shattuck St. Mary’s, Scott Reedy joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) in the United States Hockey League. He concluded his tenure at St. Mary’s with an impressive record of 180 points in 119 games. Upon joining the NTDP, Reedy was recognized as a versatile, playmaking forward with a mature approach to the game. In his rookie season, he showcased his talent by scoring four points in four games at the U17 Five Nations tournament and nine points in five games at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge. His performance in the USHL garnered attention from scouts, leading to his ranking as the 92nd overall prospect heading into the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Reedy played for the Golden Gophers at the University of Minnesota from 2017 to 2021. During his rookie season, he recorded seven goals and eight assists for 15 points through 35 games. Early Career (2021-2022)
Scott Reedy signed a two-year entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks on April 2, 2021, concluding his collegiate career. He joined the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, on an Amateur Tryout for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. During this period, he scored three goals and one assist in his first ten games, finishing the regular season with eight points. Reedy remained with the Barracuda to start the 2021-22 AHL season, recording a team-high 12 points in the first 12 games before being called up to the NHL level. His first NHL goal came on February 27, 2022, in a game against the Seattle Kraken.
Breakthrough (2022-2023)
On March 3, 2023, Scott Reedy was traded to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Jacob Peterson. He concluded the season with the Texas Stars of the AHL, scoring six goals and four assists for ten points in 18 games. Reedy signed a one-year, two-way deal as a restricted free agent to return to the Stars on July 3, 2023. However, injuries limited him to just 12 games in the 2023-24 season, where he scored five goals and two assists for seven points. He became a Group 6 unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2024.
