Sydney Bard Bio
Sydney Marie Bard is an American professional ice hockey defenceman for the Vancouver Goldeneyes of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). She previously played for the Boston Fleet of the PWHL. Bard began her collegiate hockey career with the Colgate Raiders, where she achieved significant success and became an all-time leader in points for defenders.
Early Life and Background
Sydney Marie Bard was born on January 15, 2001, in New Hartford, New York. She attended New Hartford High School, where she was involved in various sports, including field hockey, golf, and lacrosse. At the age of 15, she moved to Rochester, New York, to pursue her passion for hockey at Selects Academy. During her time there, she won two state championships and was named Most Valuable Player twice while playing as a forward. In her senior year, she played for the Toronto Jr. Aeros in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League.
Path to Hockey
Bard began her collegiate hockey career with the Colgate Raiders during the 2019–20 season. In her freshman year, she recorded three goals and 13 assists in 38 games, leading all ECAC rookie defensemen with 16 points. Following her impressive debut season, she was named to the ECAC All-Rookie team. In her sophomore year, she faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic but still managed to contribute one goal and seven assists in 23 games.

Breakthrough (2021–2024)
Bard’s breakthrough came during her junior year at Colgate when she recorded four goals and 23 assists in 39 games, leading all ECAC defenders in points and assists. This performance earned her a spot on the All-ECAC third team. In her senior year, she continued to excel, recording three goals and 30 assists, which led to her being named to the All-ECAC first team. On January 20, 2024, she achieved a significant milestone by recording her 100th career point.
