Early Life and Background

Walmer Martínez was born in Santa Cruz, California, to a Honduran father and a mother from Victoria, Cabañas, El Salvador. He began his soccer journey at a young age, playing for the Santa Cruz Breakers academy during his youth soccer career. Martínez attended Cypress Charter School from 2012 to 2013, where he played soccer as a freshman. However, during his time at Soquel High School, he did not participate in high school soccer.

Path to Soccer

After his early exposure to soccer, Martínez continued to develop his skills at Cabrillo College, where he played for the Cabrillo Seahawks from 2016 to 2017. During his time there, he scored an impressive 22 goals in 35 appearances. In 2018, he transferred to California State University, Monterey Bay, where he continued to excel, scoring 17 goals in 35 appearances. While in college, he also played for the USL League Two side Santa Cruz Breakers in both 2018 and 2019, and briefly appeared for Des Moines Menace towards the end of the 2019 season, further honing his skills and gaining valuable experience.

Early Career (2018–2021)

Walmer Martínez began his professional career with the Santa Cruz Breakers in 2018, where he played until 2019. He then had a brief stint with Des Moines Menace before signing with USL Championship side Hartford Athletic on April 12, 2021. His time at Hartford marked a significant milestone in his career, as he scored his first professional goals on October 26, 2021, netting a brace in a 2–0 victory over the Charleston Battery.

Breakthrough (2021–2024)

Following his successful tenure at Hartford Athletic, Martínez was announced as the first-ever signing by USL Championship expansion club Monterey Bay FC on December 22, 2021. He contributed significantly to the team until the end of the 2024 season, when the club opted not to renew his contract, making him a free agent. On February 7, 2025, he joined USL League One side AV Alta FC ahead of their inaugural season, marking a new chapter in his professional career.
