Hurricane Tyra Black, originally from Boca Raton, Florida, is a professional pickleball player with a strong background in professional tennis. Starting her tennis journey at the age of three, Tyra quickly developed her skills, eventually becoming a formidable player in the sport. Her early tennis career was marked by multiple ITF titles, showcasing her talent and competitive spirit.

Tyra’s transition from tennis to pickleball has been both swift and impressive. Known for her agility and strategic gameplay, Tyra is rapidly becoming a rising star in the sport.

She comes from a family deeply rooted in athletics. Her father, Sylvester Black, was a former Jamaican Davis Cup player, and her mother, Gayal Black, has been a constant source of support. Tyra is one of four sisters, including Tornado Alicia Black, who is also a professional tennis player. 

Off the court, Tyra enjoys hiking, visiting nature parks, and playing recreational pickleball. These activities reflect her love for nature and her active lifestyle, providing a balance to her professional sports career.

Hurricane Tyra Black’s Pickleball Career 

Hurricane Tyra Black, originally from Boca Raton, Florida, has made a remarkable transition from professional tennis to pickleball, quickly establishing herself as a formidable competitor in the sport. Beginning her professional pickleball career in 2023, Tyra has already achieved significant success and recognition.

One of her most notable accomplishments is her victory over the world’s top-ranked player, Anna Leigh Waters. Tyra has competed in numerous PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball (MLP) events, demonstrating her skill and determination on the court.

In addition to her competitive successes, Tyra secured her first PPA women’s singles gold medal at the Takeya Showcase. This victory further cemented her status as a rising star in the pickleball community.

Tyra is also a valued member of the Miami Pickleball Club roster, contributing to the team’s efforts in Major League Pickleball events.

She is sponsored by PIKKL and Stack Athletics, using the PIKKL Hurricane Pro 14mm paddle, which complements her aggressive and strategic gameplay.

Before transitioning to pickleball, Tyra was a successful professional tennis player, winning multiple ITF titles.
