Mohaned Alhouni
Mohaned “Mo” Alhouni is a professional pickleball player originally from Tripoli, Libya, now residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Standing at 6’4″, Alhouni is known for his powerful left-handed play and has rapidly ascended the ranks of professional pickleball since turning pro in 2023. He competes on the PPA Tour and is a member of the Major League Pickleball (MLP) team, the Las Vegas Night Owls.
Early Life
Born on February 17, 1996, in Tripoli, Libya, Alhouni was a standout junior tennis player, winning 15 African championships in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories and representing Libya in the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Turkey. In 2011, amid political unrest in Libya, he and his older brother, Motasem, relocated to Minnesota. Alhouni continued his tennis career at Gustavus Adolphus College, becoming a five-time All-American and winning the ITA National Singles Championship in 2017.
Family Life
Alhouni’s family played a significant role in his athletic journey. His father facilitated his move to the U.S. to pursue better opportunities. His brother, Motasem “Mota” Alhouni, is also a professional pickleball player, and the two have competed together in various doubles events.
Career
Alhouni began playing pickleball recreationally in May 2022 and entered his first professional tournament in Lakeville, Minnesota, in 2023. As of June 2025, he has competed in 30 professional tournaments, participating in a total of 161 career matches. Notably, he reached his first PPA semifinal in December 2024 after impressive victories over Anderson Scarpa, Aanik Lohani, and Adam Harvey.
In addition to his playing career, Alhouni co-founded OYA Sports, a venture aimed at promoting sports development. He also serves on the tennis and pickleball board at Life Time Fitness, contributing to the growth of the sport at the grassroots level.
