Based in St. Louis, Missouri, the Shock has quickly developed a reputation for competitive excellence, strategic play, and strong community engagement. Owned by the Chaifetz family, a group noted for their business acumen and commitment to sports innovation, the team represents the heartland’s passion for this rapidly growing sport. The Shock’s matches are broadcast nationally on the Tennis Channel and streamed widely, reflecting their importance in the MLP ecosystem.
History
Formed in 2023, the St. Louis Shock emerged as one of the key franchises in Major League Pickleball’s expanding field of 24 elite teams. The team benefits from strong ownership and management led by Richard Chaifetz and his son Ross Chaifetz, whose leadership has bolstered the team’s operational and competitive achievements.
St. Louis Shock has hosted major MLP events, including the 2025 MLP St. Louis tournament at the iconic Chaifetz Arena, a venue that helped elevate the professionalism and fan experience of pickleball tournaments by providing a true sports arena atmosphere.
In the 2025 season, the Shock kicked off their campaign with back-to-back wins in Orlando, demonstrating their capability to perform under pressure with tight finishes, notably winning in DreamBreaker tiebreaks. The team’s hallmark has been discipline, resilience, and clutch play in high-stakes moments. They finished second at the 2025 Mid-Season Tournament and have maintained an elite standing in the league by combining experienced talent and strategic adaptability.
The Shock have also played a pioneering role in fostering pickleball’s community engagement through innovative programs like the Shock DUPR Club Alliance, which connects clubs nationwide to enhance competitive opportunities and operational success, underscoring the team’s commitment beyond just the professional court.
