DXDT Racing Bio
DXDT Racing is a professional sports car racing team founded in 2014 by David Askew and based in Statesville, North Carolina. The team competes primarily in SRO America’s GT World Challenge America and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and has established programs across GT, sprint and endurance formats.
Early Life and Background
DXDT Racing began as a small racing effort that grew out of founder David Askew’s interest in motorsport. Askew, a competitive offshore sailor and businessman, established the team in 2014 and moved operations to North Carolina while the organization retained early ties to the western United States.
In its formative years DXDT ran club and regional events with the National Auto Sport Association at venues such as Miller Motorsport Park, now Utah Motorsport Campus. Those early campaigns in 2015 and 2016 produced multiple wins and podium finishes in classes including GTSU, Spec Z and TTB, giving the team a foundation in car preparation and race operations.
Path to MotorSports
DXDT Racing stepped into professional-level competition through series that support larger national calendars. The team moved from club competition into one-make and GT categories, entering Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America and Pirelli World Challenge weekend events as it expanded its staff and driver lineup.
Opportunities with Sprint and SprintX-style races allowed DXDT to field mixed professional and amateur pairings and to develop drivers and engineers in both sprint and endurance settings. That pathway created partnerships and opened doors to GT3 competition and endurance programs on major North American race weekends.
DXDT Racing Career
Early Career (2014–2016)
Following its 2014 founding DXDT concentrated on club racing and regional series while establishing technical and logistical capabilities. The 2015 NASA season at Utah Motorsport Campus produced four wins and six podiums from eight starts, demonstrating early competitiveness in customer-level programs.
In 2016 the team continued NASA competition and began occasional entries in national-level events, including a one-weekend entry into Pirelli World Challenge. Those seasons allowed DXDT to scale operations and to prepare cars and personnel for professional GT competition.
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Breakthrough (2016–2017)
DXDT entered Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America as it grew into multi-car professional support series work. In 2017 the team ran multiple cars across Pro/Am and LB Cup classes and fielded drivers drawn from club ranks and regional prototypes.
The 2017 Lamborghini effort produced strong results across the season. The team finished the year fifth in the championship while recording 13 pole positions, 13 podium finishes and nine race wins, a performance that solidified DXDT’s capability at professionally run, single-make GT events.
GT World Challenge America Breakthrough (2016–2021)
DXDT made increasing appearances in GT World Challenge America and its predecessor series beginning with weekend entries in 2016 and partial seasons in 2018. The team moved to Mercedes AMG GT3 machinery for expanded GT competition and began contesting both Sprint and SprintX formats.
A significant partnership began in 2018 with a multi-year relationship that brought CrowdStrike co‑founder George Kurtz into the team program alongside professional co-drivers such as Colin Braun. That collaboration produced the team’s first notable GT World Challenge America wins, including race victories at Watkins Glen International.
By 2020 DXDT had expanded to a multi-series effort that included GT World Challenge America and a TC America program. The 2020 season yielded multiple podiums and wins across series and contributed to the team’s championship results that year.
CrowdStrike Partnership Era (2018–Present)
The CrowdStrike partnership established a high-profile pro/am entry that combined business leadership and experienced pro drivers. George Kurtz and Colin Braun formed a regular pairing in the No. 04 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and provided a front-line presence for DXDT at major events, while David Askew and other driver pairings maintained competitive entries across the team.
Under that structure DXDT grew into a three-series organization by 2021, contesting GT World Challenge America, GT America and TC America programs. The team applied lessons from sprint and endurance racing to manage multiple cars and driver ratings at national events.
Driving Style and Strengths
DXDT Racing has shown strength in pro/am GT3 competition and in endurance events where mixed driver lineups and strategic pit execution are decisive. The team’s use of Mercedes AMG GT3 machinery since 2018, combined with a focus on car preparation and pro/am driver coaching, has produced consistent podium pace in both sprint and longer-format races.
Notable Events and Milestones
Key milestones include the team’s successful Lamborghini Super Trofeo campaign with multiple wins in 2017 and strong GT World Challenge America results after adopting GT3 machinery. Headline endurance moments include a promoted class victory at the California 8 Hour and the Pro/Am class win at the inaugural Indianapolis 8 Hour in 2020 for the No. 04 entry driven by George Kurtz, Colin Braun and Ben Keating.
DXDT Racing Career Wins
DXDT Racing’s verified wins span club racing, single-make series and GT competition. Early NASA victories and the nine wins recorded in Lamborghini Super Trofeo 2017 sit alongside GT World Challenge and TC America race wins that followed as the team expanded into professional paddocks.
GT World Challenge America Highlights
The team recorded its first GT World Challenge America victories after moving to Mercedes AMG GT3 machinery. In 2019 George Kurtz and Colin Braun secured a win at Watkins Glen International, and the 2020 GT World Challenge America season produced multiple wins and a collection of podiums that helped the team claim team-level and driver-level titles that year.
Other Wins & Perfromances
Prior to GT3 competition DXDT achieved notable success in Lamborghini Super Trofeo competition, including nine wins and numerous poles and podiums in 2017. The team’s NASA campaigns in 2015 and 2016 yielded a combined seven wins and double-digit podiums across two seasons in regional competition, underpinning the squad’s early racecraft and technical development.
