Brooke Buckner Defeats Christian: Brooke Buckner came back from losing the first game to defeat Kaitlyn Christian, the No. 10 seed, at the Veolia Sacramento Open sponsored by Best Day Brewing.
The No. 7 seed took some time to play her best. She had a hard time in Game 1 but then used her strong shots to win 5-11, 11-1, 11-6.
One challenge for Buckner and all players on Thursday in northern California was handling the extreme heat, with temperatures over 100 degrees. However, the mother of three managed the heat as well as anyone could.
“We’re out here playing pickleball, so it can’t be that bad. Ideally, you don’t go three in this weather, but [Christian’s] tough and to beat her in two is really difficult. I’m just happy to get the win.” – (Buckner)
Buckner will play against Layne Sleeth, the No. 21 seed for a chance to reach the semifinals.
