Pickleball Court Upgrades in North Bay: Surface and Lines

Pickleball Court Upgrades in North Bay: North Bay pickleball enthusiasts are set to see significant improvements at the Bourke Playground Park courts. The City of North Bay has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to install a new playing surface and apply proper court markings. The RFP, which seeks proposals from qualified and experienced contractors, will close on August 9.

Current Court Conditions and Community Concerns

Local pickleball players have raised ongoing concerns about the current conditions at the Bourke Playground courts. Dave Saad presented these issues to the City Council in May.

“If they’re going to be forced to pay user fees, they want to make sure they’re playing on proper pickleball courts.” – (Saad)

He described the existing setup, saying, “The current situation at the pickleball courts in Bourke Playground is an asphalt area with lines that don’t conform to the dimensions of a pickleball court.”

Saad further emphasized the impact of the issue: “Lines are raised. Draw the analogy to an arena. It would be like having a 14-inch blue line instead of a 12-inch blue line. And having your blue line 1/16th inch higher than the ice – it has an impact.”

Moving Forward

The RFP process aims to address these concerns by ensuring that the new surface and court markings meet the necessary standards. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to improving the facilities in response to community feedback and concerns.
