Corbin Park Renovated Sport Court: A revitalized sport court at Corbin Park is set to be unveiled on June 26, 2024, at noon. This newly renovated space will feature two dedicated pickleball courts and one dedicated tennis court, offering enhanced recreational opportunities for the community. The grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with members of the Spokane Pickleball Club being among the first to christen the new courts.
Community-Driven Improvements and Construction Details
Construction on the sport court began in October, pausing during the winter months. The recent warm weather facilitated the completion of court surfacing and striping. The project also included the installation of new fencing, nets, and a concrete wall on the north side of the courts. In our Parks Master Plan outreach, the community shared a desire for improved sport courts like pickleball as important amenities for health, wellness, and community-building,” said Jason Conley, interim director of City of Spokane Parks & Recreation. “Many of our courts are aging, and that feedback was our signal to invest in making them more playable.”
Expanding Pickleball Opportunities in Spokane
Located just a few blocks west of Division near Euclid, Corbin Park’s new courts mark the City’s first dedicated pickleball facilities. Currently, those looking to play pickleball in Spokane can choose from 35 courts spread across six parks: A.M. Cannon (2), Corbin (2), Comstock (12), Sky Prairie (2), Mission (16), and Peaceful Valley (1). The Corbin Park renovation project, which replaced two aging tennis courts, was funded by the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation at a cost of $281,770.
Future Plans and City of Spokane Parks & Recreation Overview
Parks & Recreation plans to renovate one sport court per year. The next project is slated for Underhill Park, beginning in mid-August, which will feature updates to two basketball courts and the addition of two new pickleball courts.
City of Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres of parkland, including manicured parks, natural lands, aquatic centers, golf courses, sports complexes, and an arboretum. The department offers a wide range of recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities, aiming to enhance the health and quality of life for the community.
