A group of local pickleball enthusiasts got together and approached the city during the winter of 2023 to see if they would be willing to convert the old tennis courts to pickleball courts,” said Tim Hughes

Weekend Festivities and Inaugural Bell City Challenge

To celebrate the courts’ grand opening, the Hillsboro Ohio Pickleball Association has organized a series of activities from July 4-6. These include open play sessions, skill challenges with prizes, and beginner-friendly clinics aimed at introducing newcomers to the sport. The highlight event, the Bell City Challenge on July 6, offers participants a chance to engage in competitive play amidst the Festival of the Bells.

To mark the grand opening of the courts, the Hillsboro Ohio Pickleball Association is rolling out the red carpet for all pickleball enthusiasts with a packed weekend of activities from July 4-6.

The event lineup includes open play sessions for all skill levels, engaging skill challenges with exciting prizes, and beginner-friendly mini clinics,” Hughes announced.

Thursday, July 4, the action kicks off from 5-8 p.m.; Friday, July 5, it’s a full day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and on Saturday, July 6, get ready for the inaugural Bell City Challenge from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is one weekend you won’t want to miss.

Looking ahead, the association plans to host the inaugural Bell City Open tournament on September 21-22. This tournament not only aims to showcase the new courts but also invites players from across the region to compete in a spirited display of pickleball prowess.
