BFOA Adds Pickleball to Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

BFOA Adds Pickleball: The Broadcasters Foundation of America is diversifying its fundraising approach with the addition of pickleball to its celebrated annual Celebrity Golf Tournament and Fundraiser. Set for September 9 at the Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, NY, this year’s event promises a blend of sportsmanship and charitable support.

Pickleball Challenge Integration

Alongside the prestigious golf tournament, the BFOA Pickleball Challenge aims to engage junior-level broadcast professionals in networking and camaraderie. This innovative addition encourages participation beyond golf, offering entry to the day’s cocktails and celebratory dinner.

Leadership and Purpose

Chaired by Leo MacCourtney, President and CEO of Katz Television Group and Vice Chair of the BFOA Board of Directors, the event shows its role as the Foundation’s second largest fundraiser. MacCourtney emphasizes the critical role of funds in supporting broadcast professionals in need.

MacCourtney commented, “The Celebrity Golf Tournament is the second largest Fundraiser for the Broadcasters Foundation. The funds we raise are essential to continuing the Foundation’s mission. Requests for aid continue to escalate and we must be there to help every broadcaster who qualifies.”

Foundation Impact

President Tim McCarthy highlights the Foundation’s ongoing commitment, having allocated over $15 million in aid over two decades and anticipating $1.8 million in distributions this year. The event welcomes both individual players and corporate teams, fostering community and support across the industry.

“It is vital that we embrace the new generation of broadcast professionals who have joined our industry. The Pickleball Challenge also enables those that do not play golf to participate in the Celebrity event and enjoy the evening’s festivities. In addition to individual players, we hope to see corporate and market cluster challenges on the Pickleball Courts.”- (Tim McCarthy)
