Pickleball Tournament at Middletown YMCA: The Middletown YMCA is set to host an exciting one-day mixed doubles “Blind Draw” pickleball tournament on October 12, 2024, at the YMCA at Silver Lake Park, located at 202 E. Cochran St, Middletown, Delaware.
Designed to accommodate various skill levels, the pickleball tournament will feature three skill brackets: 3.0 and under, 3.5 and under, and 3.5 and above. Additionally, players will be divided into age groups of 49 and below and 50 and above. Notably, all net proceeds from this event will benefit the Middletown YMCA of Delaware, making participation not only competitive but also impactful for the community.

Tournament Structure and Brackets
In an effort to ensure quality play and fairness, brackets will be established on October 10th, allowing players to compete against others of similar skill and age. This tournament is not sanctioned and will not be fed to the DUPR, meaning age brackets may not adhere to the typical ten-year groupings. Players who register after September 5th will be assigned to the most suitable bracket.

Games will take place on six outdoor pickleball courts equipped with permanent nets. To secure a spot in the tournament, both partners must be registered with full payment and signed waivers. Tournament schedules will be posted a few days before the event, with brackets available on the day of play.
Competition Format
The primary format for this tournament will be double elimination, with games played in a best 2 out of 3 format, requiring a win by 2 points. For teams in the consolation bracket, games will consist of one match to 15 points, also with a win by 2 rule. However, if a survivor bracket team wins the Gold Medal match in two out of three games, an additional playoff game will be played to 15 points. For brackets with four teams or fewer, a Round Robin format will be utilized.

Team age brackets will be determined by the age of the youngest partner as of December 31, 2024. While older players may opt to play down, they cannot play up in age groups. Skill levels will be assessed based on the highest skill level of the team.

Participants should check in starting at 7:30 AM for brackets scheduled to start at 8:00 AM. Those scheduled after 8:00 AM must check in at least 30 minutes prior to their bracket’s start time, allowing for a 5-minute warm-up period.
