Saanich Serves Up Call for Pickleball Feedback: Seeking Community Input

Saanich Serves Up Call for Pickleball Feedback: As pickleball continues to gain traction across the region, Saanich is actively engaging its residents to shape the future of this increasingly popular sport. With a total of 15 indoor pickleball courts and 13 outdoor courts currently available, the municipality is keen to hear from its community through a newly released questionnaire designed to gather feedback on pickleball facilities.

Growing Demand for Facilities

The district has recognized a rising demand for pickleball amenities, highlighting the need for thoughtful development in line with community interests. The input from residents will play a crucial role in informing council decisions regarding future park developments and funding requests. This initiative underscores Saanich’s commitment to accommodating the evolving needs of its residents in recreational activities.

Existing Facilities and Future Plans

Saanich boasts a range of facilities to cater to pickleball enthusiasts. The Saanich Commonwealth Place, Pearkes Recreation Centre, and Cedar Hill Recreation Centre collectively offer 15 indoor pickleball courts. Additionally, there are 13 outdoor courts scattered across the municipality, providing ample opportunities for residents to engage in this vibrant sport.

However, changes are on the horizon. The district plans to phase out two outdoor courts at Tolmie Park as part of the establishment of the upcoming Fowler recreation hub, which will be situated near the Cordova Bay Golf Course. This development aims to enhance the sporting landscape in Saanich.

New Developments at Fowler Park

The Fowler Park project promises exciting additions for pickleball players, with six new purpose-built pickleball courts slated for construction. In addition to these courts, the facility will also feature a tennis court, catering to a wider range of racquet sport enthusiasts. This dual approach demonstrates Saanich’s dedication to fostering a diverse sports environment and ensuring that both tennis and pickleball can thrive within the community.

As Saanich continues to gather resident feedback, the future of pickleball in the municipality appears promising. With the potential for expanded facilities and enhanced community engagement, residents can look forward to more opportunities to enjoy this fast-growing sport.
