PPA Quarterfinals Suddenly Suspended, Players Left in the Dark with a Screeching Halt!

PPA Quarterfinals Suddenly Suspended: In a surprising twist at the Humana Championship Court in Virginia Beach, quarterfinal play was suspended because of unsafe lighting conditions. This decision followed an exciting day of pickleball that had fans on the edge of their seats!

Lighting Concerns Halt Play

During their men’s doubles quarterfinal match against Dekel Bar and Hunter Johnson, top-seeded brothers Ben and Collin Johns raised concerns about the poor lighting. After talking with tournament officials, Head PPA Referee Don Stanley decided that it was unsafe to continue, as only he can make that call according to the 2024 Player Handbook.

At the time of the stoppage, the Johns brothers were leading with a score of 11-7, 3-8. Initially, it was announced that they would forfeit Game 2 and resume with only Game 3 on Saturday. However, since players can’t agree to a partial forfeit, play will resume at the same score.

Resuming Action

The PPA quarterfinal match will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET and will be available for streaming on PickleballTV. Following this matchup, semifinal action will commence directly afterward.

In addition, the other two gender doubles quarterfinal matches are set to unfold back-to-back on Grandstand Court, also beginning at 10 a.m. These matches can be streamed live on the PPA YouTube channel.

Upcoming Matchups

It seems Semifinal Saturday will bring even more excitement than usual.
