Ben Johns Conquers PPA Virginia Beach Cup with Dominant Final Victory

Ben Johns Conquers PPA Virginia Beach Cup: Ben Johns showed once again why he’s one of the best in pickleball by winning the men’s singles gold at the PPA Virginia Beach Cup. In a highly expected final, he beat Hunter Johnson with scores of 11-5 and 11-9, making it his second title in Virginia Beach this season. The match displayed his skill, strategy, and strong determination, as Johns proved he can perform well under pressure against a tough opponent.

A Rising Star Meets His Match

Hunter Johnson, the No. 10 seed, has been on a great streak lately, winning his first PPA title in Atlanta and defeating the tough Federico Staksrud in the semifinals. However, Johns, the No. 2 seed, showed his experience and calmness. In an exciting first game, he went on a 6-0 run at the end, using smart tactics to take the early lead.

A Battle of Wits

As the second game started, it looked as if Johnson might turn the tide. His passing shots ignited the crowd, propelling him to an 8-3 lead. Just when it seemed a third game was inevitable, Johns summoned his resolve. He launched into another 6-0 rally, flipping the momentum back in his favor.

The intense back-and-forth left fans on the edge of their seats, but it was Johns who closed out the match shortly thereafter, adding yet another title to his impressive collection.

Relief and Elation

After an exhausting day of pickleball, having already played nine matches, Johns expressed relief at avoiding a decisive third game.

“I was definitely happy to finish that one in two.”

“Hunter hit some incredible passing shots that I had no chance at, so I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to see too many more of those.”-(johns)

This victory comes after Johns also won the mixed doubles final with Anna Leigh Waters, beating Jorja and JW Johnson. At just 25 years old, Johns is proving he is a strong player in pickleball, showing once again that he can handle any challenge that comes his way.
