Chhattisgarh Dominates National Pickleball Championship, Secures 8 Medals

Chhattisgarh Dominates National Pickleball Championship: Chhattisgarh emerged victorious at the 8th National Pickleball Championship, held in Panipat, Haryana, from October 4 to 6, bringing home a total of eight medals. The pickleball event, organized by the All India Pickleball Association, saw fierce competition across various age categories, with Chhattisgarh’s athletes standing out.

Narrow Misses in Key Finals

In the 50+ mixed doubles category, Darshan Aaron and Shilpi Matreja from Chhattisgarh made it to the finals but narrowly missed gold, falling to Delhi’s Alka and Bhrigu 8-11 in a close contest.

Their efforts earned them a well-deserved silver medal. Similarly, in the Girls’ Under-16 Doubles final, Chhattisgarh’s Sanskriti Tayal and Suhani Pathak battled hard but were edged out by Chandigarh’s Stuti and Pooja 9-11, also securing a silver.

Under-19 Boys Deliver in Bronze Medal Match

Chhattisgarh’s medal rally extended into the Under-19 Boys’ Doubles category, where Jivitesh Sarkar and Akash Kushwaha clinched the bronze medal.

They defeated Haryana’s Aditya and Sarthak 11-6 in a solid performance during the bronze medal match, adding to Chhattisgarh’s impressive tally.

Girls’ Under-16 and 50+ Women’s Categories Shine

Chhattisgarh’s most significant successes came on the second day, where they grabbed five medals in the Under-16 Girls and 50+ Women’s categories. Suhani Pathak earned silver in the Under-16 Girls Singles final after a hard-fought 10-12 loss to Chandigarh’s Stuti.

Sanskriti Tayal redeemed herself by claiming the bronze in the same category, defeating Punjab’s Stuti 11-6.

In the 50+ Women’s Singles final, Shilpi Matreja secured Chhattisgarh’s only gold, dominating Bhavna Chauhan 11-4. Bhavna had to settle for silver, while Chhattisgarh’s Reena Agrawal rounded out the podium with a bronze in this division.

A Proud Moment for Chhattisgarh

According to Rupendra Singh Chauhan, Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Pickleball Association, the team’s performance at the national level reflects the growing interest and talent in pickleball within the state.
