Pickleball Fundraiser in North Platte for Breast Cancer Awareness in Tribute to Rich Deckert

Pickleball Fundraiser in North Platte: The North Platte Pickleball Club hosted a breast cancer awareness pickleball tournament at the North Platte Recreation Center on Saturday, uniting players and supporters for a cause close to their hearts.

Honoring Rich Deckert

This year’s event, known as the Rich Deckert Queen of the Court Pickleball Tournament, pays tribute to Rich Deckert, who passed away in June after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.

An active member of the club, Rich Deckert’s legacy continues to inspire participants and organizers, as they come together to honor his memory.

Raising Funds for a Cause

Funds raised during the tournament will support two vital initiatives: a park bench in Cody Park and assistance for cancer patients at the Callahan Cancer Center.

The pickleball event featured exciting raffles and prizes, contributing over $2,400 to the fundraising efforts, showing the community’s dedication to making a difference.

Growing Community

As pickleball’s popularity surges, the North Platte Pickleball Club is witnessing an influx of new members. Jane Wilkinson, the club’s secretary, expressed her excitement about the tournament’s turnout and the overall growth of the club.

“It’s amazing that our club has over 200 members, and there are just over 350 people out there playing pickleball at different times, so we encourage people to get out and have fun. Pickleball is great for your health, and it’s a great way to meet people.” – (Jane Wilkinson)

Looking ahead, the North Platte Pickleball Club is gearing up for their next event: the Spook-tackular tournament at Axes and Aces on Sunday, October 27. The club continues to engage the community and promote the health benefits of pickleball while fostering connections among players.
