Pickleball Fundraiser at Holmen Rotary Club Set for October 24

Pickleball Fundraiser at Holmen Rotary Club: Four Coulee Region Rotary Clubs are gearing up for a one-of-a-kind fundraiser that combines the growing popularity of pickleball with a mission to raise awareness about polio. The upcoming ‘Pickleball for Polio’ event will take place at The Blue Zone in La Crosse, promising an evening of fun while supporting a critical cause.

A Sneak Peek from the Holmen Area Rotary Club

On Thursday, Holmen Area Rotary Club Member Kelly Dunn shared insights about the inaugural pickleball event during an appearance on News 8 Now This Morning. His enthusiasm for pickleball and its potential to connect the community was evident. When asked why he chose this sport as a vehicle for raising awareness about polio, Dunn revealed the inspiration he found during a recent trip to Arizona.

“Last February, I was down in Arizona visiting friends who were wintering there, and every one of them all they talk about is pickleball,” Dunn explained. “Then I come back, and I see The Blue Zone has opened up in the former Shopko building in north La Crosse. I went in there. It was just an amazing facility. Locally we try to hold a fundraising event once a year, and we thought that this could be a different one.”

Commitment to Eradication Efforts

Since partnering with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1974, The Rotary Club has raised over $2.1 billion to combat the spread of polio worldwide. Each year, the organization pledges an additional $50 million towards polio eradication efforts, driven by events organized by local Rotary Clubs.

The Holmen Area Rotary Club’s event is strategically scheduled for World Polio Day on October 24, taking place from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This timing emphasizes the importance of the cause while engaging the community in a new way.

Ticket Information and Activities

Attendees can join the festivities for a starting ticket price of $15 per person, allowing them to socialize while supporting a vital initiative. For those eager to play, tickets are available for $20 without equipment and $25 for those needing to rent equipment on-site. In addition, the club will host a ‘Royalty of the Court Tournament’ for a fee of $25 per person, adding a competitive edge to the evening.
