Big Orange Pickleball Debuts in Knoxville: From Passion to Reality

Big Orange Pickleball Debuts in Knoxville: Big Orange Pickleball (BOP) is set to make a splash with the grand opening of its new facility on Friday, November 1. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by the Knoxville Chamber, will take place at 10 a.m. at BOP’s state-of-the-art location at 7729 Strawberry Plains Pike. Attendees will enjoy light refreshments following the event, marking the beginning of a new chapter for pickleball in the area.

A Premier Venue Designed by Pros for Players

Big Orange Pickleball’s facility stands as a multimillion-dollar investment aimed at addressing the rising demand for pickleball across the region. Billed as one of the finest indoor pickleball venues in the country, the project was developed with input from top-tier players, ensuring that it offers a first-class experience on every level. The pickleball venue doesn’t just cater to local players; it positions itself as a hub for the broader pickleball community.

Owned by Wayne Hodge and Kim Hodge, along with John Seivers and Kelly Seivers, Big Orange Pickleball features six SportMaster cushioned courts. These courts are specifically designed for extended play, built with six layers of rubber to enhance comfort and reduce strain on the body.

Cutting-Edge Features for an Elevated Playing Experience

Beyond the courts themselves, Big Orange Pickleball provides a fully climate-controlled environment, keeping the facility between a comfortable 68-71 degrees year-round. That means no interruptions from rain, wind, or scorching sun—just uninterrupted play. And it doesn’t stop there.

Customized LED uplighting reflects off the ceiling, creating an even glow that reduces glare and enhances ball tracking for players. Plus, 8-foot nets between courts help keep the game clean by preventing balls from crossing over into adjacent games.

Expertise in Leadership and Instruction

The facility’s management team includes pickleball professional Cassie Quast, a PPR Certified Pro who brings a wealth of experience from her time playing with and against the sport’s top players.

Cassie Quast’s role at Big Orange Pickleball also includes offering instruction to players of all skill levels, whether they’re newcomers to pickleball or transitioning from tennis. Wayne Hodge, who has earned his PPR associate coach certification, adds further expertise to the facility’s offerings.

A Dream Realized for Local Owners

Wayne Hodge and Kim Hodge, longtime residents of Knoxville, turned their passion for pickleball into reality with Big Orange Pickleball. After years of traveling 30-45 minutes across town just to play, Wayne Hodge sought to create a venue that would not only be closer to home but also exceed the expectations of local players.

“We are excited to be providing not only a convenient location for our local pickleball enthusiasts, but our facility goes beyond expectations by providing the comfort of climate control and the convenience of a pro shop in house.” – (Wayne Hodge)

With its doors now open, Big Orange Pickleball is ready to become a destination for casual players and seasoned pros, redefining the pickleball sport in Knoxville.
