1st Pickleball Tournament at Oakley City Sets Excitement

1st Pickleball Tournament at Oakley City: Oakley City is set to premiere its inaugural pickleball tournament this Independence Day, marking a significant addition to the local festivities. A strong turnout of 285 players has registered for the tournament, scheduled to span July 5th and 6th.

Hosted at the Oakley Recreation/Rodeo Complex, boasting 12 state-of-the-art outdoor courts inaugurated last summer, this event stands as Summit County’s largest dedicated pickleball gathering to date. According to Oakley City’s press release, it also claims the title of the county’s largest tournament ever.

Local support has been important, with sponsors including Ultimate Home Lending, Oakley Diner, Ken’s Kash, FiiZ Drinks, Oakley Bakery, Teton Wealth Group, Simply Blush, and No Worries Construction. Nationally recognized Selkirk Sports has also joined as a sponsor.

Participants eagerly paid a $30 registration fee, with sign-ups closing on July 1st. Each player is guaranteed four games, competing across various age and skill divisions in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles categories.

Notably, tournament results will not contribute to the DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating), a global ranking system for pickleball enthusiasts and clubs.
