1st Alaska State Pickleball Championship Scheduled from July 11

1st Alaska State Pickleball Championship: The debute Alaska State pickleball championship, a qualifier for the United Worldwide Championships! Hosted at a premier venue, this tournament is not just a competition but a celebration of pickleball’s growing community.

Match results will be submitted to DUPR within two weeks of the tournament, and players are encouraged to join the DUPR Club: Victory Road Pickleball for efficient results submission. Refunds are available up to two weeks before the tournament registration closing date, subject to a $15 processing fee. Please note, there will be no refunds for weather-related cancellations. Round Robin with top teams advancing to single elimination for medals. Pool play formats may vary based on the number of players/teams.

Tournament Dates and Structure

The Alaska State Championship, held from July 11-15, 2024, at Bartlett High School Tennis Courts, will feature various skill levels and age groups. The tournament begins with Senior Men’s & Women’s Doubles on July 11, followed by Senior Mixed Doubles on July 12. All Ages Men’s & Women’s Doubles will take place on July 13, and All Ages Mixed Doubles on July 14. The event ends with All Ages Men’s & Women’s Singles on July 15. The competition format includes round-robin play, with top teams advancing to single-elimination playoffs for medals. Specific match times will be confirmed closer to the registration deadline of July 4th.

Competition Format and Winning Prizes

The Alaska State Championship follows a round-robin format, with top teams advancing to single-elimination playoffs for Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Non-pool play brackets of three teams will feature a double round-robin, while brackets of four will have each match best 2 of 3 games to 11 by 2.

Brackets of 5-7 will play one game to 15 by 2. Pool play will be used for events with eight or more teams, with top teams advancing to playoffs. Participants who secure skill-level gold at the state championship are eligible for a complimentary event fee to the United Pickleball Associations World Championship in Dallas, TX, recognizing excellence in the Champions Division. Participants can choose only one division for Singles, Gender Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

About The Tournament

Unite and Compete: Players from Alaska and beyond will battle for a spot in the United Pickleball Association’s World Championships in Dallas this November. UPA rules state that Championship Divisions are for players who have medaled in a U.S. Championships event. If you lose a partner beforehand, new partners can register regardless of state championship medals. Check out the Dallas event page for more details.

Support a Cause: This event raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association Alaska Chapter. Your participation contributes to a noble cause. Visit the chapter’s site to learn more and donate.

Put Alaska on the Map: This tournament aims to display Alaska as a major player in the pickleball world, attracting competitors from the lower 48 states and beyond.

Tikantu restaurants: Bring your own chairs, tables, and canopy tents for shading outside the enclosed playing area. No backpacks allowed on the courts; place towels and drinks against the fence. Paddle backpacks can hang outside if desired. Two Porta-Johns onsite; nearby restaurants have restrooms. Bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer as needed. Registrants after June 28th do not receive a free T-shirt; purchase one for $25 if available.Raffle tickets: $5 each or 5 for $20. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Alaska Chapter; prizes worth over $2000.

Start times: Visit the tournament homepage and click “Start times” to check when your matches begin. To view your bracket group, click “Players Registered” and then “Show all players”. We will post confirmed adjusted brackets and start times by July 7th on the tournament website. Please revisit the site that evening for updates. Medalists earn a chance to compete in the prestigious United Pickleball Associations World Championships in Dallas, TX, where fees are waived or discounted, making it a rewarding experience for top players nationwide.

Venue and Other Details

The Alaska State Championship will take place at Bartlett High School Tennis Courts, located at 1101 Golden Bear Dr., Anchorage, Alaska. The venue boasts up to 12 outdoor courts, including eight tennis-painted surface courts and four asphalt courts with portable nets. Vulcan Pickleballs will be used for all matches. Participants will be provided with Gatorade, water, and snacks daily, with additional lunch options from local vendors like Hula Hands available on Saturday and Sunday. Nearby, Tikatnu Commons offers a variety of dining choices. Join us at this fantastic venue for an exciting and community-driven pickleball event!
