New Pickleball Blue Zone Courts in Burlington Set for October Opening

New Pickleball Blue Zone Courts in Burlington: Burlington is about to welcome a groundbreaking addition to its recreational landscape: Blue Zone Courts, a sprawling 20,000-square-foot indoor pickleball facility set to open in October. This ambitious project promises to redefine the local pickleball experience, boasting eight pro-grade pickleball courts and two dedicated padel courts, making it the largest of its kind in Canada.

Addressing a Critical Gap

Joyce Telmo-Kanti, co-founder of Blue Zone Courts, highlights

a crucial gap in the region’s recreational offerings. “In Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, and neighboring areas, there are a lot of pickleball courts but most of them are multipurpose, or shared courts. We have a lot of outdoor courts, but indoor availability is low. There’s huge demand but low supply.”

The facility aims to address this imbalance, providing a dedicated space where pickleball enthusiasts can thrive.

Embracing the New Sport of Padel

Blue Zone Courts will cater to pickleball players and embrace the rising sport of padel, a hybrid of tennis and squash.

“It’s played on a smaller tennis court with glass and mesh all around. You can use the walls to bounce the ball. It’s a lot of fun, but I still have to learn how to let that ball bounce off the glass to my advantage.” – (Telmo-Kanti)

The padel court is being imported from Spain, while the pickleball courts will feature professional-grade acrylic coating.

Community and Convenience

The popularity of pickleball in Canada has been on the rise, and Burlington is no exception with several leagues already in operation. Telmo-Kanti envisions Blue Zone Courts as more than just a sports facility; she aims to create a vibrant community space.

“Everyone should try it, not just Blue Zone Courts, but the sports themselves. That’s what it’s about for us. It’s not about court rentals, it’s about promoting health and community.” – (Telmo-Kanti)

A key feature of the facility will be its emphasis on player convenience, including court dividers to prevent interruptions during games.

“Something people don’t realize is important is court dividers. It’s a pain when your ball goes onto the other court, and they have to stop playing to get your ball.” – (Telmo-Kanti)

Looking Ahead

In addition to offering leagues and tournaments, Blue Zone Courts will also host a cafe where players can socialize before or after games. The facility plans to introduce men’s and women’s leagues, and possibly children’s leagues, depending on community interest.

“We want to foster the love for pickleball early in life. It depends on the makeup of members and if there is interest, but if it’s there, then we will definitely do a junior league.” – (Telmo-Kanti)

As construction continues, the excitement builds for the October opening of Blue Zone Courts. For more details and to book a court once the facility is complete, stay tuned.
