Okotoks’ New Pickleball and Tennis Centre Expansion: The planned Okotoks Pickleball & Tennis Centre received a major boost with a generous $250,000 donation from the Integrity Group. On August 16, representatives from Integrity, the proposed centre, and the Town of Okotoks gathered at the site on 32 Street to announce the pivotal contribution.
Project Details and Construction Plans
The new facility will include 12 indoor and 12 outdoor pickleball courts, two outdoor tennis courts, a restaurant and bar, change rooms, and viewing areas. Integrity Post Structures, a division of the Integrity Group, is set to lead the construction efforts. Centre president Ryan Sawatzky expressed excitement about advancing the project, with hopes to start indoor construction by next spring.
Community and Corporate Support
Sawatzky praised the community’s overwhelming support, noting, “We feel very, very fortunate about the level of support that we’ve received and the encouragement from everybody that we’ve talked to. The community spirit here has been second to none.” Integrity Group co-owner Shanna Groeneveld highlighted the company’s commitment to giving back, given its deep roots in the Okotoks area.
Matching Funds and Future Outlook
Mayor Tanya Thorn praised the donation, stating, “That is a tell of what makes our community so awesome and unique. We all work together for a common cause.” The $10-million project, funded through donations and grants, will be managed under a 30-year agreement with the town. The $500,000 matching fund from an Alberta family is close to being fully utilized, reflecting the success of ongoing fundraising efforts.
