Battle in the Puddle Pickleball Tournament in Williams Lake: The Kiwanis Courts in Williams Lake were a hive of activity on August 24 and 25 as the Battle in the Puddle pickleball tournament drew players and spectators alike to witness the weekend’s thrilling matches. Despite a chill in the air and a bit of wind that posed challenges, the competitive spirit on the courts was nothing short of scorching.

A Tournament to Remember

Games kicked off promptly at 9 a.m. each day, showcasing a round-robin format that featured men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles play. The event, organized and hosted by the Williams Lake Pickleball Club, was met with favorable conditions on Saturday as the anticipated rain held off. The players made the most of the day’s weather, delivering an engaging spectacle for all in attendance.

Notably, the Dela Calzada family returned from their summer vacation to support Jay Dela Calzada, who competed with enthusiasm. Noemie Dela Calzada and their children—Niz, Clive, and Julia—were on hand to cheer Jay on, making the event a family affair as they wrapped up their summer at home.

His hard work and dedication paid off with two fantastic achievements,” said Noemie. Jay Dela Calzada clinched third place in the 3.5 men’s doubles and took first place in the 3.0 mixed doubles with his partner Jay Chappell, earning both accolades and prize money.
