As the founder of the club, established in 2013, Ouellette is affectionately known among members as “Father Pickleball,” a title that reflects his leadership and his deep passion for the sport.

A Grateful Community

“Thanks to Chuck, we have a very active club,” noted Sharon Richardson, a dedicated member of the St. Paul Pickleball Club. Ouellette’s influence has been significant, guiding the club through its formative years and fostering a community that thrives on camaraderie and competition.

Richardson expressed the gratitude felt by many, stating, “As a club, we thank Chuck Ouellette for introducing us to the sport and being an active member for all these years.” Now 85, Ouellette has stepped back from active play but remains a cherished figure within the organization, wishing the club continued success.

The Growth of Pickleball in St. Paul

Since its inception, the sport of pickleball has surged in popularity in St. Paul. Ouellette’s enthusiasm for the game was evident even years ago when he told the St. Paul Journal in 2014 that he enjoyed playing pickleball even more than curling. His passion has clearly resonated with many, as the club now boasts a vibrant and engaged membership.

Join the Fun

For those curious about pickleball or interested in joining the St. Paul club, opportunities abound. During the winter months, the club convenes indoors at the Centre Communautaire gymnasium, welcoming players on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until noon, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. When summer arrives, the action shifts outdoors to the Kinsmen courts, conveniently located across from St. Paul Regional High School.
