Coldstream Teen Shines in Pickleball Nationals: At just 15 years old, Chayton Hauberg from Coldstream has made a significant mark in the world of pickleball. His remarkable achievements at the Myoflex 2024 Pickleball Canada National Championship have showcased his exceptional talent and determination.
National Champion
In a thrilling display of skill and tenacity, Hauberg clinched the gold medal in the 15-29 age category, 3.5 skill level event. The championship, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from August 20-24, saw Hauberg dominate the competition with a perfect 4-0 record. His final match was a hard-fought battle against Saskatchewan’s Mike Melfort, ending with scores of 16-14, 11-15, 15-7. Despite being the youngest competitor, Hauberg held his own against opponents in their twenties, proving his mettle and earning the top spot.
A Glimpse of the Tournament
The Myoflex 2024 Pickleball Canada National Championship was a grand event, featuring over 800 players across more than 60 categories and skill levels. The tournament included competitions for women, men, doubles, mixed doubles, and players ranging in age from 15 to over 70. Previous Achievements
Before this national triumph, Hauberg demonstrated his prowess at the Kamloops Open tournament in early June. Partnering with James Johnson, he secured a bronze medal in the 4.0 doubles event for ages 14-64. Additionally, Hauberg earned a silver medal in the singles 3.5 level, further establishing his reputation as a rising star in pickleball.
