Jack Foster Praises Vrushali Thakare: 23-year-old Jack Foster, one of the star players of the Bengaluru Jawans, has shared insights into his journey and the rising prominence of pickleball in India. Foster, who has played over 300 games, reflected on his experience playing in the inaugural World Pickleball League (WPBL), a tournament that debuted in India on January 24, 2025.

Foster, who hails from the United States, is part of a diverse team led by Priya and Atlee, which includes young and experienced players like 17-year-old Mauro Garcia and 51-year-old Marcello Jardim. The team has emerged as one of the strongest contenders in the league, boasting an impressive 4 wins out of 5 ties during the round-robin stage.

Foster’s Experience with the Bengaluru Jawans

Foster, making his first international appearance, expressed his excitement about the growth of pickleball in India and the tournament itself.

“This is my first time in India and my first time playing internationally. It’s been such a fun experience seeing the sport grow here. The World Pickleball League has been one of my favorite tournaments. Everyone’s been so supportive, and my teammates and I get along really well, which I think has contributed to our success so far.” – (Foster)

He also praised teammate Vrushali Thakare, highlighting her impressive skills.

“Vrushali has a great backhand counter. I had never seen her play before, but she’s really impressive. I got to play a mixed match with her, and she did well. It was fun to team up with her.” – (Foster)

Rising Through the Ranks

Reflecting on his humble beginnings in pickleball, Foster explained how he was introduced to the sport in high school gym class.

“I have been playing for six to seven years now. I started in high school gym class back in the U.S., and ever since then, I’ve seen pickleball grow so much. I started playing, and as I got better, I began looking for tournaments. In the past three to four years, a professional tour has started to emerge in the United States and is now expanding internationally.” – (Foster)

As the Bengaluru Jawans prepare for the semi-finals, Foster emphasized the importance of team chemistry.

“Oliver’s been amazing—really supportive, just encouraging us to believe in ourselves and each other. He reminds us to enjoy the experience and understand that it’s a privilege to be able to play here.” – (Foster)

Bengaluru Jawans’ Successful Journey

The Bengaluru Jawans finished the round-robin stage with 52 points, securing 4 victories and topping the table. The team will face the Hyderabad Superstars in Semi-final 1, with hopes of advancing to the finals on February 2, 2025. Their victory over the undefeated Mumbai Pickle Power has been a highlight of their strong performance.
