Isle of Wight’s Pickleball Tournament: The Isle of Wight hosted its first-ever pickleball tournament at the West Wight Sports and Community Centre on January 17. A total of 32 competitors participated in a round-robin event, with each player competing in eight matches.
Exciting Tournament Final
Martine Burgess and Ian Molyneux emerged as the winners after a tense final match against Jan Cannon and Jason Butchers.
Jon O’Bryan and Rob O’Connell finished in third place. The event was part of the growing interest in pickleball on the Isle of Wight.
Event Highlights
After the competition, players enjoyed a buffet lunch provided by the centre’s cafeteria. Clare Griffin, the centre manager, expressed her excitement about the tournament.
“The popularity of this tournament event proves the growing interest in pickleball at the Centre and on the Island. Today has been a great success,” -(Clare Griffin).

Pickleball, which was recently recognised by Sport England, is now offered at the centre for players of all ages and abilities. The tournament is just one of many signs of the sport’s rising popularity on the Isle of Wight.
