“Here’s a pickleball tip that’s had massive improvements in my game. I wish someone taught me this earlier. It’s after you hit your return a serve and you’re running up to the kitchen line. If your opponent hits a third shot drive at you, you want to handle the drive with two hands instead of one while you’re moving. Tomassi warns that using one hand often causes the ball to pop up, making it easier for opponents to smash. He demonstrated what happens when the ball dips below net height and players try to volley with one hand.
“Avoid doing this. The issue with the one-hander is if your opponent drives the ball and it dips beneath the height of the net like this, using one hand the ball is always going to pop up. With two hands, you can still volley it down. One hand, it’s impossible.” – (Tomassi)
