Tanner Tomassi Shares Two-Hand Tip: Pickleball player Tanner Tomassi has shared a simple tip that he says made a huge difference in his game. In a video posted online, Tomassi explained how using two hands on the paddle while running to the kitchen line can help players better handle third shot drives from opponents.

Two Hands Give You More Control
Tomassi says the tip focuses on what to do right after returning a serve. As a player moves up to the kitchen line, they may face a strong third shot drive. That’s the moment to switch to a two-handed volley for better control.
“Here’s a pickleball tip that’s had massive improvements in my game. I wish someone taught me this earlier. It’s after you hit your return a serve and you’re running up to the kitchen line. If your opponent hits a third shot drive at you, you want to handle the drive with two hands instead of one while you’re moving. This allows you to have much more control and stability of your paddle while you’re on the run.” – (Tomassi)
Avoid the Pop-Up Mistake
Tomassi warns that using one hand often causes the ball to pop up, making it easier for opponents to smash. He demonstrated what happens when the ball dips below net height and players try to volley with one hand.
“Avoid doing this. The issue with the one-hander is if your opponent drives the ball and it dips beneath the height of the net like this, using one hand the ball is always going to pop up. With two hands, you can still volley it down. One hand, it’s impossible.” – (Tomassi)
He closed the video by encouraging others to keep learning.

Tip Gains Attention from Players
Tomassi’s video is part of his growing collection of tips aimed at everyday pickleball players. His advice is easy to follow and based on real game situations. Many players may benefit from the added stability that comes with using both hands, especially when moving and reacting to fast shots.
The tip has already gained traction online and may become a go-to move for players looking to reduce errors and win more points during fast exchanges.
