The Rise of the Cabieses Siblings: Pioneers of Pickleball in Peru

The Rise of the Cabieses Siblings: The pickleball world was recently thrilled by the performance of the Cabieses siblings, Miranda and Hercilio, who proudly brought the World Pickleball Cup to their home country of Peru. Though they are relatively new to the sport, their dedication and passion have significantly impacted the growing pickleball community. Since they entered the sport in 2021, they have made remarkable strides, inspiring players of all ages and backgrounds to embrace this exciting game.

A New Chapter in Pickleball

Miranda Cabieses began her journey with a paddle just three years ago, transitioning from her early tennis career. After facing a significant setback at the age of 9 due to a hip injury, she was determined to continue her love for racquet sports. It was during the pandemic that she discovered pickleball, quickly falling in love with its fast-paced nature and vibrant community.

Her brother, Hercilio Cabieses, a former collegiate tennis player, soon followed suit, making the same transition. Together, they harnessed their tennis backgrounds to excel in pickleball, becoming professional players in record time.

In just a short period, the Cabieses siblings have achieved extraordinary milestones, including the establishment of the Cabieses Foundation. This organization aims to introduce and promote pickleball among young people in Peru, ensuring that the sport thrives for future generations.

Through clinics and outreach programs, they are not only teaching the game but also instilling the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. Their foundation reflects a commitment to the community and a belief in the positive impact of sports on youth.

Hosting the World Pickleball Cup

In late October, the Cabieses siblings reached a new pinnacle in their journey by hosting the World Pickleball Cup in Lima, Peru. The event brought together nearly 500 athletes from 32 countries, showing talent and diversity in the sport.

This prestigious tournament not only put Peru on the global pickleball map but also inspired a new generation of players eager to take up the sport. Hercilio Cabieses expressed his vision for the future, stating,

“We want to keep growing the sport. We want to make this an event that people talk about all over the world.” – (Hercilio Cabieses)

Their ambition is clear: to make the World Pickleball Cup an annual highlight that draws participants and fans. By hosting such a significant event, they have already begun to lay the groundwork for a vibrant pickleball culture in their home country.
